Cougars head to College Station for second time this season
HOUSTON – The Houston Cougar Men's and Women's Cross Country teams continue the 2018 season with a trip to compete at the Texas A&M Invitational on Saturday in College Station, Texas.
ABOUT THE TEXAS A&M INVITATIONAL
The Texas A&M Invitational begins at 8 a.m., with the men's 8,000-meter run, while the women will run a 6,000-meter race at 8:45 a.m. The Cougars will compete against the host school Texas A&M, Central Michigan, Georgia State (Women Only), Lamar, Louisiana Tech, LSU, Rice (Women Only), Sam Houston State, Southeastern Louisiana, Tarleton State, Texas A&M-Kingsville, TCU, Tulane and UT-Rio Grande Valley.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
The men will be led on the course by redshirt freshman Nicholas Fernandes who returns to action for the first time since a runner-up finish at the Aggie Opener to kick off the 2018 season. Fernandes crossed the line in the 6K in 18:24.0 to take silver at Watts Cross Country Course.
Freshman Gabe Armijo will also be in action on Saturday after posting top-10 finishes in each of his first two collegiate meets. Armijo finished eighth in the 6K at the Aggie Opener (19:04.3) before taking 10th in the 4-mile race at the Rice Invitational in 20:45.9.
For the women, Houston's top finisher from the Rice Invitational, Meredith Sorensen, returns to the track for the Aggie Invite. Sorensen crossed the line in the 4,000-meter race in 14:57.0 to place 21st and help lead the Cougars to a third-place finish in the team standings.
The Cougars' leading runner at the Aggie Opener, Jahnavi Schneider will compete in her third meet of the season Saturday. Schneider ran 15:14.9 in the 4.1K at the season-opening meet to finish 13th, while running 15:13.7 at the Rice Invitational to place 28th.
