Houston Takes Perfect Record to Lafayette

MATCH NOTES

HOUSTON -- The University of Houston Volleyball team takes its undefeated, 4-0 record to Lafayette, La. this weekend as the Cougars are set to compete in the 2018 Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic. The two-day event is scheduled to take place from Friday, August 31 – Saturday, Sept. 1.

The Cougars' first contest of the weekend will be against Nicholls State on Friday and is slated to begin at 12 p.m. and they will then play their second match of the day against Sam Houston State at 4 p.m. After its matchup against Mississippi Valley State at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Houston will wrap up its weekend with a contest against host Louisiana at 4 p.m.

With its undefeated, 4-0, record Houston is off to its best start to a season since the 2002 campaign and is seeking to begin its season 8-0 for the first time since 1987.
The Cougars' high octane offense is looked up as one of the best in The American as their .277 team hitting percentage tops all other conference foes. Houston also ranks third in the league in kills (13.93) and assists per set (13.07).
Houston's lineup has seen a number of players already make an impact on the year as junior outside hitter Megan Duncan (4.07), as well as sophomore outside hitters Gabi Zelaya (2.79) and Silvia Pertens (2.38), all lead the Cougars in kills per set.
The Cougars also possess a pair of lethal setters with the tag team of sophomore Abby Irvine and senior Katie Krebs. Each setter averages over 4.50 assists with Irvine's 6.50 helpers a set sitting inside the top 10 of the conference.
Junior libero Katie Karbo anchors the back row for Houston, having led the Cougars in digs in all but one match this season.
