Houston Comes Back Against ULM in Thriller

HOUSTON -- The University of Houston Volleyball team rallied back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Louisiana-Monroe, 3-2 (19-25, 21-25, 25-15, 25-15, 15-9), in the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup finale on Saturday afternoon inside Athletics/Alumni Center.
With the win, the Cougars improve to 5-4 on the season, while ULM falls to 3-9.
After dropping the first two sets 25-19 and 25-21, Houston rallied out of the break with consecutive 25-15 decisions to keep the match alive. In the fifth set, the Cougars turned in a match-high .400 hitting percentage to close the match with a 15-9 victory.
Senior setter Keandra McCardell was named to the all-tournament team, averaging 9.15 assists and 2.38 digs per set across Houston's three matches. Against ULM, the native of Missouri City, Texas, posted her third double-double of the season and 23rd overall of her career, tying her career-high with 18 digs and amassing a season-high 53 assists.
Junior outside hitter Sarah Afflerbaugh recorded her second double-double of the season and fifth of her career, registering a career-high 24 kills and 10 digs, also posting a career-high four blocks.
Sophomore middle blocker Chenelle Walker and outside hitters Brianna Lynch and Megan Duncan all reached double-figures kills, finishing with 13, 13 and 10, respectfully. Freshman libero Katie Karbo finished with 15 digs, while freshman defensive specialist Abby Giles dug up 10 balls.
The Cougars outhit ULM .263-.177 for the match, while both teams tied with eight blocks.
