HOUSTON â€" After an award-winning season on the course, University of Houston sophomore Megan Thothong was recognized for her work in the classroom Tuesday when she was named a 2015-16 Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar.
Thothong, who is a business administration major, collected this accolade for the second straight season. The Dallas native posted a perfect 4.0 grade-point average during the 2015-16 season and has recorded a cumulative 3.95 GPA during her first two years.
Thothong â€" whose name is pronounced Toe Tong â€" was one of four Cougars named to the All-American Athletic Conference Team in April. She was a close third on the team with a 74.39 scoring average and ranked second among the Cougar with nine rounds of par or better.
She successfully defended her individual title at the UNF Collegiate in early March, becoming the first player in school history to win multiple championships.
She has continued her stellar play this summer. In June, she won the Texas Stroke Play Championship at Pine Forest Country Club in Houston and earned a place at the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship for the second time in her career after tying for third in a qualifier in Fort Worth, Texas.
Thothong and letterwinner Raegan Bremer (2013-16) will tee off at the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship on Aug. 1 at Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pa.
