EUGENE, Ore. â€" University of Houston sophomore Michael Perras added to his trophy case Sunday when he was named to the PING All-Central Region Team.
Perras was one of 156 players in the nation across six regions to be honored. It was the first time during his career that he was named to this postseason squad.
In 2015-16, Perras leads the Cougars with a 71.53 scoring average and 21 rounds of par or better. He tops the team with seven top-10 finishes in 13 tournaments to date and was the Cougars' lone selection to the 2016 All-American Athletic Conference Team.
Perras was magnificent in the Cougars' most recent action entering the NCAA Championships. The Deer Park, Texas, native captured the NCAA Franklin Regional individual championship by two strokes with a score of 16-under-par 200.
He became the second Cougar in as many years to win an NCAA Regional individual title and to accomplish that feat with three consecutive rounds in the 60s, including a First-Round 65. He joined current teammate and senior Blair Hamilton, who share the 2015 NCAA Lubbock Regional individual title at 205.
Perras was joined on the PING All-Central Region Team by Braden Bailey (Baylor); Paul Barjon (TCU); Texas A&M's Cameron Champ and Chandler Phillips; Oklahoma State's Wyndham Clark, Brendon Jelley, Jordan Niebrugge, Stratton Nolan and Kristoffer Ventura; Oklahoma's Brad Dalke, Grant Hirschman and Max McGreevy; Arkansas' Nicolas Echavarria, Taylor Moore and Alvaro Ortiz; Martin Eriksson (McNeese State); Texas' Doug Ghim, Gavin Hall, Beau Hossler and Scottie Scheffler; Victor Lange (Louisiana Tech); Hannes Ronneblad (Texas Tech); Antoine Rozner (UMKC) and Nick Voke (Iowa State).
