HOUSTON - University of Houston swimming & diving head coach Ryan Wochomurka is proud to announce the addition of three newcomers, two swimmers and one diver, to the program.
Claire Liptak, Hannah Middleton and Victoria Roubique will join previously announced Hanna Blewett, Zarena Brown, Lauren Burrell, Gaby Jimenez, Peyton Kondis, Laura Laderoute, Sydney Larson, Emily Longfellow and Isabel Tank to make up the 2016 freshman class.
"We are excited to add these three to the nine signed in the fall," Wochomurka said. "They add significant depth to an already deep and diverse class. We have twelve incoming freshman next year, certainly a large class, and one that has the potential to quickly speed up the upward trajectory of the program. Claire, Hannah, and Victoria can all score at the American Athletic Conference Championships right away.
On the swimming side, the two breaststrokers will add significant depth to an already strong group of breaststrokes. Putting together such a large and talented class is a monumental effort, my hat goes off to our staff - especially Recruiting Coordinator Hannah Burandt on a job well done."
Liptak is the second diver of the 2016 signing class. The Richmond, Va. native competed with the Alexandria Dive Club under head coach Tim Fisher.
She was named to the All-Metro Second Team in 2013. At the NVSL All Star Meet in 2015, Liptak placed fourth overall and nabbed a top-three finish at the same meet in 2013.
The daughter of Greg and Diann, Liptak ranked in the top-10 percent of her graduating class at Monacan High School where she is a member of the National Beta Club and Monacan Maniacs. Liptak plans to study pre-psychology in hopes of becoming a neurosurgeon.
"I'm excited to add Claire Liptak to our 2016 roster this fall," diving coach Bob Gunter said. "Claire comes from an outstanding club program and has shown the utmost dedication to her sport. She has great potential to grow at the collegiate level and adds much needed depth to our program. I can't wait to get her on campus."
Middleton comes to Houston from San Antonio, Texas, where she swam for the Alamo Area Aquatic Association and head coach Louis Walker. She is a four-time district and regional champion and a three-time All-State Team member at Ronald Reagan High School.
She earned the bronze medal at the UIL Texas 6A state meet in the 100-yard breaststroke this season. Middleton was a member of two school record holding relays, 200-freestyle and 200-medley. In 2014, she was awarded the North East Independent School District's High Five Award.
The daughter of Doug and Kayleen, Middleton received the ESPN San Antonio Athlete of the Week award presented by Lombardi Award winner Dat Nguyen on Feb. 10. She plans to study architecture.
"We've been recruiting Hannah all year," Wochomurka said. "We really enjoyed getting to know her a lot in the fall and she performed really well this year at the Texas high school state meet. She has really positioned herself to be a major contributor for us individually and on relays right away as a freshman."

200-yard breaststroke: 2:22.51
100-yard freestyle: 51.48

Roubique hails from Cypress, Texas, where she swam for the Cypress Fairbanks Swim Club for coach Dustin Myers. She is a two-time All-American and the 2015 Texas 6A state champion in the 100-yard breaststroke.
She was a junior national qualifier in four events. Roubique also was a two-year All-Regional, All-State First Team member.
Outside the pool the Texas native will graduate cum laude from Cy Ranch High School and was a three-time USA Swimming Academic All-American. She plans to study communication science and disorders in hopes to become a speech pathologist working with autistic children. She is the daughter of Shannon and Nicole Roubique.
"We've been recruiting Victoria since the day I stepped on campus a year ago," Wochomurka said. "What's exciting about Victoria is she's a heck of an athlete and she's really still relatively new to the sport of swimming. It is important that we continue to re-establish a rich tradition of keeping the very best from the city of Houston at home."
