HOUSTON â€" West Linn High School product Amanda Elich became the newest member of the University of Houston Women's Golf program after recently signing a National Letter of Intent.
Standing 5-foot-7, Elich â€" whose last name is pronounced E-litch â€" will compete as a freshman during the 2016-17 season and have four years of eligibility with the Cougars.
"Amanda has a great golf pedigree and has enjoyed tremendous success in high school and at the junior level. She is a special player who was looking to be a part of what we are doing," said Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell, who recently completed his third season at Houston. "On the course, Amanda hits it a long way. She is a great kid and carries herself well and fits our culture well. I expect to see greatness from her in the next few years."
Elich, who hails from West Linn, Ore., was an award-winning star in high school. As a four-year letterwinner for Head Coach Bob Turnquist, she was named to multiple All-State, All-Region and All-Conference teams during her prep career and finished among the top-11 leaders at the State Championships for four consecutive seasons.
Most recently, she led WLHS to its fourth state championships in the last seven years and tied for fifth individually with a score of 150.
As a junior, she won the Three Rivers League title and guided the Lions to the team title by more than 100 strokes ahead of their closest competitor. She also led the Lions to a second-place finish at the State Championships and tied for eighth individually with a score of 149.
Elich showed signs of a bright future early in her career, finishing among the top-10 leaders at the State Championships as a freshman in high school and winning the District individual championships as a sophomore.

The Cougars recently completed their 2015-16 season. Competing as the Cougars' first representative at the NCAA Championships, freshman Leonie Harm tied for 81st at Eugene Country Club on Sunday.
As a team, the Cougars fell just two strokes shy of earning the program's first berth to the NCAA Championships at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional on May 5-7. That Regional has proven to be one of the best this season with four of the top-8 remaining teams heading into match-play competition advancing out of Baton Rouge.
Harm earned her individual spot out of the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional after tying for seventh with a score of 1-under-par 215.
