Hamilton overcame a tough finish in his First Round on Monday morning to lead the Cougars. Starting on No. 10, the Burlington, Ontario, Canada, native stood at 3-under-par through 16 holes in the morning session but endured a 7 on the par-3 eighth and closed out his First Round with a bogey on the par-4 ninth hole.
Undaunted, Hamilton rebounded in the afternoon session, suffering only one bogey. Playing at even-par through 14 holes, he sank three straight birdies on Nos. 6-8 before closing out the Second Round with a par.
Second-Round play was suspended due to darkness with one group having one hole remaining to complete the first 36 holes.
No. 8 Texas held the team lead at 570 with No. 22 LSU (580), No. 13 Oklahoma State (583), No. 29 Texas A&M (584) and No. 17 USF (585) rounding out the top-5 team leaders.
The Cougars enjoyed a 12-stroke improvement from the morning round with an afternoon score of 289 and stood in a tie with No. 3 Illinois at 590.
Individually, Texas' Gavin Hall finished the first day at 137 to stand three strokes in front of Zach Wright of LSU and Oklahoma State's Jordan Niebrugge. Hamilton joined Illinois' Charlie Danielson and Texas A&M's Chandler Phillips in a group tied for fourth at 141.
Sophomore Michael Perras overcame a 78 in the morning round to better his score by seven strokes with a 71 on in the afternoon session and was tied for 35th at 149.
Sophomore Papito Gonzalez and senior Vincent Martino were tied for 47th at 150, with sophomore Alan De Bondt tied for 69th at 157.
Competing as individuals, redshirt freshman Logan Davis was tied for 20th at 147, while sophomore Joshua Gibbons stood in 68th at 156. Making his collegiate debut, redshirt freshman Carson Cavner was 83rd at 171.
The tournament ranks as one of the nation's elite collegiate events. All 15 teams in the Valspar Collegiate Invitational stand among the nation's top 50 in the latest Golfstat national rankings with four of the top 10 and 10 of the top 25.

The Cougars will compete in threesomes with student-athletes from Illinois and Texas beginning with an 8 a.m. (CDT) shotgun start Tuesday. Hamilton will be in the first group off No. 10 with Gonzalez (second group off No. 10), Martino (first group off No. 11), De Bondt (second group off No. 11) and Perras (No. 12) following.
Cavner will start his Final Round on No. 17 with Davis (first group off No. 18) and Gibbons (second group of No. 18) following.
UP NEXT
Following the Valspar Collegiate Invitational, the Cougars will compete at the 3M Augusta Invitational on April 2-3 at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
From there, the team will close out the regular season at The Maxwell Intercollegiate on April 16-17 at Dornick Hills Country Club in Ardmore, Okla.
