HOUSTON -- Danish amateur star Alexander Frances has joined the University of Houston Men's Golf program after recently signing a National Letter of Intent, Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke announced Friday.
Frances, who measures 6-foot-1, weighs 155 pounds and attends Vordingborg Gymnasium, will compete as a freshman during the 2017-18 season and have four years of eligibility.
"The thing that I like about Alexander is that he has won at every level," Dismuke said. "He was a very consistent player at the junior level, winning several events, and he is now beginning an impressive amateur career. Alexander is mature for his age and has a bright future with us."
He is currently ranked No. 259 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.
Frances has competed with the Danish National Team at some level for the last six years, including a member of the Men's Team in 2016 and 2017. He was a member of the Boys' Squad for 2014-15 and was on the Talent Squad for 2013-14.
In 2016, Frances won the Danish Elite Tour at Hornbaek Golfklub and set the course record at Mon Golfklub -- his home course -- with a 65. He also was a member of the Danish Team that captured the bronze medal at the European Amateur Championships at Chantilly Golf Club in France.
In 2015, Frances won the Mon Open on his home course and captured the Spanish Boys International Amateur Championship at D'Aro Golf Club in Barcelona. He also was the silver medalist at the Danish Amateur Stroke Play Championship at Struer Golfklub.
In 2014, he captured the Danish Boys Amateur Stroke Play Qualification by seven shots at The Scandinavian Golf Club.

Dismuke and the Cougars recently completed their fall season and don't return to action until they open the spring campaign at their own All-American Intercollegiate. That three-day, 54-hole tournament will be held Feb. 17-19, 2017, at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas.
