EL PASO, Texas â€" University of Houston junior Michael Perras lowered his score for the second straight round to finish in a tie for 16th following the Final Round at the Western Refining All-America Classic at El Paso Country Club on Sunday afternoon.
After posting rounds of 74 and 72 on Saturday, Perras fired an even-par 71 on Sunday to move up two spots and tie with Kentucky's Tyler McDaniel at 217.
Starting on No. 10, Perras began his day with a bogey and stood at 3 over after making double bogey on the par-4 16th hole.
However, the Deer Park, Texas, native rallied with a birdie on the next hole and, after his final bogey of the day on No. 1, closed out the tournament with three birdies over his final 18 holes, including back-to-back efforts on Nos. 8-9.
LSU's Sam Burns recorded his third straight round in the 60s with a 66 Sunday to capture medalist honors at 12-under 201. He finished three strokes ahead of Justin Suh of USC.
Perras earned the honor of competing in this prestigious tournament after earning PING All-America Honorable Mention honors during the 2015-16 season.
A year ago, he was named to both the PING All-Central Region and All-American Athletic Conference teams after leading the Cougars with a 71.62 average and 22 rounds of par or better.
He tied the school record with a 63 in the First Round of the HBU Husky Intercollegiate on Sept. 21, 2015, on the way to the first title of his collegiate career. Later in the season, he became the second Cougar in school history to record three straight rounds in the 60s in NCAA Regional play and captured the NCAA Franklin Regional individual championship.
Entering this weekend's action, Perras ranked second on the team with a 71.33 scoring average and seven rounds of par or better.
