DENTON, Texas â€" The University of Houston Volleyball team extended its win streak to four games as the Cougars defeated Abilene Christian in four sets (25-22, 26-24, 23-25, 25-21) to open the North Texas Invitational Friday afternoon.
The Cougars move to 6-1 on the season while the Wildcats drop to 0-8.
After picking up the first set win of the match, Houston was down 6-0 to open set two. The Cougars didn't let that rattle them as they fought back to grab the comeback win 26-24. Abilene Christian wouldn't go down without a fight though.
The Wildcats picked up a 25-23 win in set three to force a fourth set. Both teams battled point-for-point but Houston never settled and claimed the match with a 25-21 win in set four.
Freshman outside hitter Brookah Palmer led the Cougars with 17 kills, three aces and four digs. Junior middle blocker Hunter Wise followed with 13 kills and the top hitting percentage of the match (.355). Junior outside hitter Claire McCown also had double-digit kills for the first time in her career with the Cougars.
Senior Libero Olivia O'Dell tallied 23 digs, her second best performance in a four-set match. Sophomore setter Keandra McCardell posted a season best 42 assists and was one dig shy of another double-double.
