BRADENTON, Fla. - The University of Houston Men's Golf program slipped into 29th place with a team score of 613 following the Second Round of the NCAA Championships on Saturday evening at The Concession Golf Club.
For the second straight day, junior Blair Hamilton fired the Cougars' lowest score of the day. The Burlington, Ontario, Canada, native posted a score of 76 on Saturday and was tied for 50th with a two-day total of 149.
Hamilton entered the NCAA Championships after sharing medalist honors at the NCAA Lubbock Regional on May 14-16. He became only the third player in school history to win an NCAA Regional title, joining Brett Callas (2003) and Dean Larsson.
Senior All-American Roman Robledo tied for 77th at 151, while junior Vincent Martino tied for 129th at 157. Senior Kyle Pilgrim tied for 134th at 158 with freshman Michael Perras tied for 144th at 160.
No. 13 USC moved into the Second Round lead with a 36-hole total of 574. First-day leader and fourth-ranked Illinois fell to second with a score of 577, while No. 33 Georgia and No. 9 LSU were tied for third at 581. No. 14 USF (585), No. 5 Vanderbilt (585), No. 12 Georgia Tech (588), No. 28 San Diego State (589) and No. 32 TCU (589) rounded out the top-9 leaders.
Following 54 holes, the top 15 teams along with the top nine individuals not on an advancing team will compete in one additional round of stroke play Monday to determine the top eight teams for match-play competition and the NCAA individual national champion.
The top eight teams after 72 holes will be placed into a match-play bracket with the winner emerging as the NCAA team national champion. Match-play teams will square off Tuesday morning with the winners advancing to the national semifinals later that afternoon.
The Championships Finals tee off early Wednesday afternoon with the NCAA team national championship on the line.
Individually, SMU's Bryson Dechambeau moved into the lead at 7-under-par 137 after shooting 67 on Saturday. Illinois' Thomas Detry stood in second at 139 with LSU's Zach Wright in third at 140.
THIRD ROUND on SUNDAY
The Cougars will compete in threesomes with student-athletes from Oklahoma and Clemson during Sunday's Final Round.
For Sunday's Third Round, Perras will tee off No. 10 for the Cougars at 7:40.m. (CDT) with Pilgrim (7:50 a.m. CDT), Martino (8 a.m. CDT), Robledo (8:10 a.m. CDT) and Hamilton (8:20 a.m. CDT) following.

Golf Channel will again provide exclusive coverage of the NCAA Championships this week. Fans can tune in to live coverage 3 - 6 p.m. (CDT), Monday; 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 - 6:30 p.m. (CDT), Tuesday and 2 - 6 p.m. (CDT), Wednesday.
For Sunday's Third Round, the Cougars return to morning start and No. 10 tee. Perras starts the day at 6:50 a.m. (CDT) with Martino (7 a.m. CDT), Pilgrim (7:10 a.m. CDT), Robledo (7:20 a.m. CDT) and Hamilton (7:30 a.m. CDT) following.
NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS HISTORY
This marks the second straight season in which the Cougars will compete at the NCAA Championships. It is the first time since 2000-01 that the program has accomplished that feat.
Robledo, Pilgrim and Martino are competing in the second NCAA Championships of their careers. They became the 62nd, 63rd and 64th players in school history to play in multiple NCAA Championships during their careers.
Perras and Hamilton are competing in their inaugural NCAA Championships this week.
This is the Cougars' 44th appearance as a team at the NCAA Championships. During their rich history, Houston has captured 16 NCAA team national championships and seen eight players win NCAA individual national titles.
A year ago, the Cougars finished 10th with a score of 848. James Ross tied for third with a score of 5-under-par 205, thanks to a Final-Round 66, while Robledo tied for 19th at 209. Both earned various All-America honors for their play.
