PALM COAST, Fla. - Three University of Houston Women's Golfers posted par or better during Monday's American Athletic Conference Championships Second Round to push the Cougars into a tie for second place.
Competing on the 6,225-yard, par-72 Ocean Course at Hammock Beach Resort and Golf Club, junior Raegan Bremer fired the Cougars' low round of the tournament to date with a 2-under-par 70 to tie for seventh at 144. Megan Thothong rebounded from a First-Round 75 to shoot 71 and was tied for 10th at 146, joining teammate and fellow freshmen Yuka Kajiki, who shot a 72.
Bettering their First-Round scores by eight shots, the Cougars surged into a tie for second place with No. 47 SMU at 586. No. 23 UCF held the second-day lead at 578. East Carolina (587), USF (590), Memphis (593), No. 24 Tulane (598), Cincinnati (611) and Tulsa (614) rounded out the field.
Bremer was steady throughout the day. The Anaheim, Calif., native birdied her first hole of the day and added another birdie on the 160-yard, par-3 12th hole. After surrendering a stroke with a bogey on No. 13, Bremer finished strong with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 17 and 18 to tie for seventh, just three strokes back of leaders Alexandra Rossi of SMU and UCF's Monifa Sealy.
Like Bremer, Thothong enjoyed a sub-par score with four birdies during Tuesday's round. The Dallas native posted a pair of birdies on her front nine and added two more birdies in a 3-hole stretch on the back nine to make her move in the individual standings.
Kajiki also sank four birdies during the Second Round with two on the front nine and two on the back nine. After battling through a double-bogey 6 on the seventh hole, the Hiroshima, Japan, native posted three birdies over her next seven holes.
Sophomore Emily Gilbreth was tied for 18th at 150, while senior Courtney Ferguson stood in 34th at 154.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS HISTORY
While this is the first time that Houston has competed as a team at the American Athletic Conference Championships, this is the second straight season the Cougars are represented at this postseason event.
A year ago, Ferguson, Bremer and Gilbreth competed as individuals. Bremer finished with a score of 225 to finish fourth on the way to being named to the All-American Athletic Conference Team.
As a first-year program during the 2013-14 season, the Cougars were not allowed to compete for team championships under NCAA rules.
