Houston Volleyball Defeats UConn, 3-1

HOUSTON -- Houston Volleyball snapped a three-match skid with a four-set win (25-15, 25-20, 21-25, 25-20) over UConn on Friday night.
The Cougars improves to 16-9 on the season, 6-7 in American Athletic Conference play while UConn drops to 13-11, 7-6 in the league.
This match marked the first four-set win in the Athletics/Alumni Center since the Cougars defeated Memphis on Sept. 28, 2014. Houston is now 4-1 in four-set matches this season.
Houston opened the match on fire as the Cougar offense hit .450 with 13 kills and just four errors to win the first set, 25-15. The Cougars snagged a 2-0 lead heading into intermission with a 25-20 win in set two.
UConn came out of the half with a force as the Huskies hit .375 with 16 kills to win the third set 25-21, forcing a fourth set. But Houston would give up and held the lead for the entire fourth set. The Cougars claimed the 3-1 win with a 25-20 victory in set four.
Redshirt freshman Chenelle Walker recorded a career high of 14 kills in the four-set win. She led the Cougars hitting .423 and four blocks. Freshman Brookah Palmer recorded her 11th double-double of the season with 13 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore transfer Shelby Harper followed with nine kills of her own, hitting a career high of .389.
Sophomore setter Keandra McCardell tallied a new career high in kills with three tonight. Senior libero Olivia O'Dell posted 18 digs to keep her double-digit dig streak alive.
NEXT SERVE
Houston Volleyball returns to the court on Sunday for the Salute to Service Match. The Cougars are set to host Temple at 1 p.m. All active duty military and veterans will receive half off admission ($4) into the match. All military dressed in uniform will get in free.
