Houston Volleyball Dominates Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. â€" Houston Volleyball nabbed a big three-set sweep (26-24, 25-23, 25-15) on the road over Tulsa Friday afternoon.
Houston improves to 17-10 on the season, 7-8 in the American Athletic Conference while the Golden Hurricane drops to 12-15, 7-8 in league play. The Cougars are now 7-3 in road matches.
The two teams battled back and forth in set one, forcing extra points. Tulsa tied the set at 24 but a huge block by Chenelle Walker and Shelby Harper pushed Houston to regain the lead. Brookah Palmer sealed the win with a kill.
In set two, Tulsa jumped out to a 14-10 lead forcing a Cougar timeout. The timeout killed momentum for the Golden Hurricane as Houston came out with a 4-0 run to tie the set and force a Tulsa timeout. From there, the teams battled point-for-point again until a double block and kill ended the match and push Houston to a 2-0 lead into intermission.
Set three was all Houston as the Cougars jumped out to a 14-8 lead forcing Tulsa to use its final timeout of the set. Houston continued to dominate the set and senior libero Olivia O'Dell sealed the win with a service ace.
Freshman hitter Brookah Palmer recorded her 12th double-double of the season with 20 kills and 10 digs while she hit .356 against Tulsa. Junior transfer Claire McCown followed with nine kills, hitting .304 while sophomore Shelby Harper recorded a team high .368 hitting average with seven kills and five blocks.
Senior libero Olivia O'Dell tallied 17 digs in the three-set win. She has now totaled 582 digs on the season and 1,448 career digs.

Houston Volleyball returns to the court on Sunday when the Cougars face SMU in Dallas, Texas. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
