GREENVILLE, N.C. â€" Houston Volleyball dropped in three sets (26-28, 22-25, 20-25) to East Carolina Sunday afternoon.
The Cougars fall to 14-4 overall, 4-2 in the American Athletic Conference while the Pirates improve to 10-7, 3-3 in conference play.
Both teams battled point-for-point in the first set until the Pirates went on a 7-point run to gain the lead and force a Houston timeout. The Cougars continued to fight as junior transfer Claire McCown gave Houston the set point setup with her kill. But East Carolina didn't give up and took the set in extra points (28-26).
From there, set two was all East Carolina heading into the half as the Pirates captured a 2-0 lead on the Cougars. The Pirates clenched the match with a 25-20 win in set three.
Sophomore Keandra McCardell posted her seventh double-double of the season as she racked up 44 assists and 12 digs. Senior libero Olivia O'Dell tallied her 18th straight double-digit dig match with 19 digs.
