PEARLAND, Texas -- Fresh off a dominating team title, the University of Houston Men's Golf program continues its fall season when it plays host to the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at Golfcrest Country Club, starting Monday morning.
The two-day, 54-hole event begins with an 8:30 a.m., shotgun start Monday on the 7,272 course. Joining with Rice and Sam Houston State as hosts, the Cougars will face Abilene Christian, Denver, Houston Baptist, Kansas, Lamar, McNeese State, North Texas, Southern Miss, Texas State, Tulsa and UTSA.
The Cougars enter the Bayou City Collegiate Classic on the heels of a 13-stroke victory at the OGIO Utah Invitational last week. Houston used two strong sub-par efforts to build a commanding lead through the first two rounds, including a magnificent 17-under-par 267 in the Second Round.
It was the team's second team championship during the fall season and the 12th team title under Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke, who is in his seventh year with the Cougars.
Four Cougars finished among the top-10 leaders, including junior Matt Scobie, who paced the team with a fourth-place finish.
HOUSTON'S LINEUP
Dismuke recently released the team's starting lineup for the Bayou City Collegiate Classic. The Cougars will be represented by Scobie, sophomore Michael Perras, seniors Blair Hamilton and Vincent Martino and redshirt freshman Logan Davis.
Juniors Emmett Oh and Matt Dunn, sophomores Joshua Gibbons and Papito Gonzalez and redshirt freshman Matt Williams will compete as individuals.
Perras has posted three top-20 finishes in each of his first three tournaments to start the season. The Deer Park, Texas, native captured the HBU Husky Invitational individual title on Sept. 22 for the first title of his collegiate career.
In his most recent outing, Perras posted two rounds in the 60s at the OGIO Utah Invitational to tie for 10th at 3-under-par 210. He currently leads the Cougars with a 70.56 scoring average and is tied for the team lead with five rounds of par or better.
Hamilton has finished among the top-15 leaders in each of the first three tournaments. The senior All-American opened the OGIO Utah Invitational with rounds of 68-66 and placed sixth with a score of 7-under-par 206. He ranks second on the team with a 71.00 scoring average.
Competing in his final collegiate season, Martino has been a steady leader. The Southlake, Texas opened the year by winning the individual title at the Northern Intercollegiate and added a 10th-place showing at the OGIO Utah Invitational, thanks to consecutive sub-par efforts in the final two rounds.
Scobie has recorded top-10 finishes in each of his last tournament tournaments. The Ajax, Ontario, Canada native finished sixth at the Shoal Creek Invitational and recently tied for fourth at the OGIO Utah Invitational after firing consecutive 66s in the first two rounds to open that event.
He is tied for fourth on the team with a 72.00 scoring average but is tied for the team lead with five rounds of par or better.
Davis has competed in two tournaments and finished among the top-25 leaders at each event. In his collegiate debut, the Humble, Texas, native finished third at the HBU Husky Invitational after sub-par rounds in the First and Final Rounds.
He ranks second on the team with a 71.00 scoring average and has posted four sub-par rounds in only two tournaments to date.
Oh will compete in his fourth tournament of the season. The Calgary, Alberta, Canada enjoyed a career-low 66 in the Second Round at last week's OGIO Utah Invitational.
Dunn made his Houston debut at the season-opening Northern Intercollegiate and will compete in his third tournament this fall. The Cypress Creek High product was one of three current and former Cougars
Williams will compete in the second tournament of his career this week. In his collegiate debut, the Calgary, Alberta, Canada, native tied for ninth at the HBU Husky Intercollegiate, which included a Second-Round 69.
Gonzalez tied for 20th at the HBU Husky Intercollegiate after posting a score of 222. The McAllen, Texas, native set a career low with a 70 in the Second Round of that event. Gibbons tied for 23rd in his season debut at the HBU Husky Intercollegiate.
