QUERENCIA, LOS CABOS, Mexico - For the fourth straight round, the 11th-ranked University of Houston Men's Golf team held a share of the team and individual leads following the first day of the Querencia Cabo Collegiate on Sunday afternoon.
The Cougars finished the first 18 holes on the 6,928-yard, par-71 course, tying with No. 29 SMU at 4-over-par 288. No. 1 Alabama - which has won its last 11 team events - stood in third at 294, while No. 16 Vanderbilt, No. 28 Baylor and UT Arlington finished in fourth at 296.
Individually, junior Roman Robledo finished with five birdies, including one on his final hole of the day, to stand atop the individual leaderboard at 3-under-par 68. Robledo, who has won three of his last seven events, posted his fourth straight round in the 60s after shooting 12-under-par 204 at last weekend's Bayou City Collegiate Championship.
Senior Wesley McClain was tied for ninth after shooting a 72. The Diboll, Texas, native began and started his round with birdies and tied with Robledo for the team lead with five birdies on the day.
Senior James Ross - who was recognized Friday as Scotland's Amateur Golfer of the Year - overcame a slow start to shoot 73 and tie for 15th, while junior Kyle Pilgrim was tied for 27th at 75.
Other Cougars in action were senior Curtis Reed and freshman Matt Scobie, who both tied for 46th at 77.
Robledo finished Sunday's play two strokes in front of Vanderbilt's Charlie Ewing and SMU's Austin Smotherman. Kolton Crawford (Arkansas), Harry Higgs (SMU), Stewart Jolly (LSU), and Alabama teammates Robby Shelton and Bobby Wyatt were tied for fourth at even-par 71.
SECOND ROUND on MONDAY
The Cougars continue their stay at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate on Monday with an 8 a.m., shotgun start. Houston will be paired with No. 1 Alabama and No. 29 SMU.
Robledo will start his day off No. 1, while McClain will begins the Second Round off No. 2. Ross begins his round off No. 3, while Pilgrim tees off No. 4. Reed will compete in the second group off No. 5, while Scobie will play in the first group off No. 16.

Following the Querencia Cabo Intercollegiate, the Cougars play host to the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas, on March 14-15.
From there, the team heads to the Sunshine State to compete at The Floridian Intercollegiate at The Floridian Golf Club in Palm City, Fla. That two-day, 54-hole tournaments begins March 24 and runs through March 25.
