HOUSTON - Southlake Carroll High star George Gardner officially joined the University of Houston Men's Golf program with his recent signing of a National Letter of Intent.
Gardner, who measures 6-feet tall and weighs 170 pounds, has been an award-winning prep star with the Dragons during his first three years. He won a high school event at Pebble Creek after posting a score of 140, including an opening-round 68, and tied for second at the 2013 Genesis Shootout after going 68-69 in the final two rounds.
He opened the Junior Byron Nelson Championship with a sparkling 67 on the way to a 10th-place showing and finished 12th at the Timarron AJGA with a score of 216.
"We followed George and monitored his progress for a long time. He is very athletic and is really coming into his own right now," Dismuke said. "Top to bottom, he is a solid player. George has a tremendous amount of athletic ability and has the potential to improve quickly."
Gardner will join Seven Lakes High product Zach Tracy as freshmen on the Cougars' 2015-16 team. He also becomes the second Southlake Carroll High product on the team, joining current junior Vincent Martino.
