Houston Volleyball Drops Hard-Fought Battle to UCF

| ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Houston Volleyball team's .294 hitting average in set one wasn't enough to out last UCF Friday night as the Cougars fell in three sets (18-25, 17-25, 19-25) to the American Athletic Conference leader.
Houston falls to 10-11 overall, 2-7 in conference play while UCF (16-5, 9-0) stays undefeated in conference play with a nine-match win streak.
The Cougars had a good opening set, hitting .294 against the Knights. Back-to-back kills by Cortney Warren put Houston ahead 6-5. Both teams battled point for point until two UCF kills, a block and an attacking error pushed the Knights up 13-9, forcing a Houston timeout.
Senior hitters Kadi Kullerkann and Cortney Warren recorded hitting averages above .400 in set one.
From there, UCF quickly took set two, 25-17 leading into intermission.
Set three was another strong set for the Cougars as they took the lead through half the set. Tied at 14-14, UCF recorded three consecutive kills to take the lead 17-14. Houston took a timeout to regroup and came back to tie the set once again 17-17. An 8-1 run by the Knights to close set three sealed the deal for UCF.
Kullerkann continued her double-digit kill streak with 14 kills against the Knights, her 21st consecutive double-digit match. The Estonian native also recorded a career high three service aces. Warren followed with eight kills, hitting .263, and a solo block for the Cougars.
Middle blocker Kaiti Waters was also an effective hitter against the Knights as she tallied five kills and a .333 hitting average. The senior also picked up a block and a dig on the defensive side.
