ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Houston volleyball team came back from a 0-2 start to defeat the UCF Golden Knights in five sets (13-25, 25-27, 25-19, 25-22, 16-14) Sunday afternoon.
UCF (19-10, 10-6 American) took a two set lead heading into the intermission. Houston (18-14, 10-7 American) made 13 errors in the first two sets. The Cougars lit the fire after the half and took a 25-19 win in set three to stay alive. Houston recorded a .464 hitting average with 14 kills and just one error in set three.
In the final three sets Houston won, the Cougars had eight team blocks and just eight errors. UCF hit under .200 in the fourth and fifth sets while only recording eight total blocks for the match.
This is the first match the Cougars trailed 2-0 at the half and came back to win this season.
Middle blocker Kaiti Waters led the Cougars hitting .500 with 12 kills and seven blocks. Cortney Warren recorded the highest amount of kills with 16 and hit .293 against the Knights. The outside hitter also had seven blocks. Freshman Sarita Mikals notched her 12th double double of the season with 11 kills and 13 digs. She also had three blocks. Kadi Kullerkann was the fourth Cougar to record double figure kills against UCF with 10.
Setter Sophie Paine reached 30 assists for the first time since playing Louisville Nov. 8. Natalie Keck recorded 23 digs, marking her 10th match with 20 or more digs.

Houston Volleyball returns to the Athletics/Alumni Center for Senior Day and the final match of the season. The Cougars take on in-state rival SMU Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 5 p.m.
