Golf Finishes 15th at Insperity Augusta State Invitational

HOUSTON - The University of Houston golf team posted its best round of the tournament with a score of 291 during the final round of the Asperity Augusta State Invitational on Sunday.
It was the third straight round in which the Cougars lowered their team score on the 7,140-yard, par-72 course at Forest Hills Golf Club. With a 54-hole total of 904, Houston finished 15th in the team standings.
A day after struggling in the first two rounds, freshman Curtis Reed rebounded to shoot an even-par 72. The Castroville, Texas, native fired four birdies in the round, including two in a three-hole stretch during his front nine and finished with a score of 236 to tie for 86th place.
Sophomore transfer Will Dusenbury finished with a score of 223 to tie for 46th place and lead the Cougars. Other Cougars in action were Jesse Droemer (t-68th, 227), Bryn Flanagan (t-76th, 230) and Wesley McClain (t-83rd, 235).
No. 1 Oklahoma State finished the tournament with a score of 848, one stroke ahead of No. 36 Tennessee and 11 strokes better than No. 31 Clemson.
Alabama (853), Augusta State "B" (855), No. 2 UCLA (866), No. 6 Augusta State (871), No. 11 Illinois (877), No. 42 Virginia Tech (882) and Coastal Carolina (883) rounded out the top-10 team leaders.
Oklahoma State's Kevin Tway earned medalist honors with a score of 12-under-par 206, five strokes ahead of Augusta State's Ollie Bengtsson and six better than Tennesse's Garrick Porteous and Cory Whitsett of Alabama.
The Cougars were part of one of the nation's top tournament fields this weekend, including No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 and No. 8 Illinois. Five of the top-eight teams and seven of the top-10 individuals in the latest GolfStat national rankings competed at the Asperity Augusta State Invitational this weekend.

The Cougars wrap up the regular season at the Jim West Intercollegiate, hosted by Texas State on April 11-12 at Victoria Country Club in Victoria, Texas
From there, the team will compete at the Conference USA Championships at Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Texas on April 24-26.
