HOUSTON - Chris Hill joined the University of Houston golf program as assistant coach, head coach Jonathan Dismuke announced Wednesday afternoon.
"Chris fit what we were looking for better than anyone else and immediately provides our program with international connections," Dismuke said. "He will relate well to our players and has done a fine job of player development throughout his career."
"Jonathan is a coach that I have looked up to since I started working in college golf, and it is an honor to join him at a program with the history and tradition of the University of Houston," Hill said. "I have been fortunate to work with coaches like Jonathan and Hank Haney during my career, and I can't wait to get started at Houston."
Hill joins the Cougar program after a two-year stint as the men's and women's assistant coach at Houston Baptist. In 2009-10, the Husky women's team won the Great West Conference championship by 21 strokes.
In his first season, he helped lead the men's team to a pair of tournament wins, including the inaugural 2009 Great West Conference championship. His work also led to five All-Conference performers during the program's first year of existence.
In 2008-09, the women's team also finished as the runner-up at the GWC Championship, and Hill worked closely with two student-athletes who were named to the NGCA All-American Scholar Team.
Prior to joining Houston Baptist, Hill worked as a certified instructor and director of college placement at the Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy in Hilton Head, S.C., in 2007-08. There he worked under the guidance of legendary instructor Hank Haney and mentored many of the nation's top junior golfers.
"Chris is one of the most dedicated teachers that I have ever had work for me, and he will be a great asset to the University of Houston golf program," Haney said.
Hill also appeared as a regular on the Golf Channel reality series School of Golf, which detailed the lives of junior golfers in their efforts to turn professional or play collegiate golf.
Following his collegiate playing days, he entered the coaching ranks as a graduate assistant at Wayne State, his alma mater, in 2006-07. During that time, he also worked as the lead instructor and assistant pro at Western Golf and Country Club in Redford, Mich.
Hill was a four-year letterman at Wayne State from 2002-06. There, he helped lead the Warriors to the 2004 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship and the 2005 Great Lakes Regional No. 3 crown.
He was a member of the Wayne State Student-Athlete Committee from 2002 to 2006 and served as captain of the golf team during the 2005-06 season.
Hill received his bachelor's degree in marketing from Wayne State in 2007.
He is a member of the PGA of America and the National Golf Coaches Association/Golf Coaches Association of America.
Hill is single and lives in Houston.
