Golf Wraps Up Regular Season This Weekend

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The University of Houston golf team wraps up its regular season this weekend when it tees off at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate.
The Cougars join 10 other teams on the 7,451-yard, par-71 Scarlet course at the Ohio State University Golf Club, including Charlotte, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, North Texas, Northwestern, Oklahoma, Penn State, Wisconsin, Xavier and host Ohio State.
The two-day, 54-hole event begins at 7:30 a.m., (CDT) Saturday with a shotgun start. The third and final round is slated to tee off at 7:30 a.m., (CDT) Sunday. Live scoring of all three rounds will be available at Golfstat.com.
The Cougars enter this weekend's tournament after finishing 16th at the Adminstaff Augusta State Invitational last weekend in an event featuring some of the nation's top collegiate programs.
Redshirt freshman Joseph Reynolds fired a career-low 69 in the second round on the way to a score of 220 and a 55th-place finish to lead the Cougars. Senior Jackie Lindsey tied for 65th place after bettering his score each round, including an even-par 72 in the final round.
Junior Clark Mitzner moved into the team lead with a 75.54 scoring average. Lindsey is a close second at 75.72, while junior Matt Eschenburg stands third at 75.79.
Junior Justin Kaplan, who joined the Cougars at the semester break after transferring from Minnesota, posted a 71 in the second round last weekend and is scheduled to compete for the Cougars.
Following the Kepler Invitational, the Cougars take two weeks off before returning to action April 25-27 at the Conference USA Championships, hosted by UCF at RedTail Golf Club in Orlando.
