SORRENTO, Fla. - For the third straight day, the University of Houston golf team improved its team score but was unable to move higher in the final standings, finishing seventh at the Conference USA Championships on Tuesday.
The Cougars posted a final-round team score of 1-over-par 289 and finished the three-day event with a total of 887 on the par-72, 7,152-yard course at RedTail Golf Club.

Although Houston was unable to gain any ground on the leaders, first-year head coach Jonathan Dismuke was pleased with his team's overall performance.
"It was one of the better rounds we played all year. It was just a good effort today," Dismuke said. "Everybody came back and played solid."
UCF posted a team score of 10-under-par 278 Tuesday to run away with the team championship. The host Knights finished with a total of 858, 18 strokes ahead of Rice (876) and Southern Miss (876). SMU (879), Tulsa (883) and East Carolina (884) rounded out the top-six team leaders.
Following the Cougars, UAB (890), Memphis (899), UTEP (914) and Marshall (918) completed the field.
Competing in his final C-USA event, senior Jackie Lindsey posted a final-round 71 to tie for 16th place and lead the Cougars with a score of 221. It was the third straight day that the Houston native bettered his score by at least two strokes.
Lindsey was a model of consistency throughout the round, posting five straight pars before drilling birdies on the sixth and seventh holes. He followed that with nine straight pars before bogeying the par-5 17th hole for the lone blemish on his scorecard.
Junior Matt Eschenburg tied for 21st with a score of 223, while junior Justin Kaplan, who transferred to Houston at the semester break from Minnesota, finished in a tie for 24th at 224.
Redshirt freshman Joseph Reynolds, competing in his first C-USA Championships, birdied two of his final seven holes and finished at 225 to tie for 27th place. It was the third straight round that Reynolds topped his previous day's score by three strokes.
Junior Clark Mitzner showed the biggest improvement on Tuesday with a 1-under-par-71. The McKinney, Texas, native, who opened the postseason event with an 80, tied for the team's lowest round of the day after recording a team-high four birdies and finished in a tie for 41st at 230.
"I was really proud of Jackie Lindsey. He finished his college career on a good note," Dismuke said. "Joseph Reynolds and Clark Mitzner each had their best rounds of the tournament."
Rice's Christopher Brown earned medalist honors with a score of 209 after firing a final-round 69. He finished five strokes ahead of Connor Arendell, Nuno Henriques and Brad Schneider of UCF and Southern Miss' Wes Carter.
