Volleyball Notches Win on Opening Weekend of C-USA Play

Memphis, Tenn. - The University of Houston volleyball team defeated Memphis, 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 25-23, 28-26) Friday night at Elma Roane Fieldhouse in their second match of league play.
With the win, Houston improves to 4-13 overall and 1-1 in league play, while Memphis drops to 2-14 and 0-3.
Four Cougars recorded double-digit kills on the night, led by 17 off senior Kinsey Cave. Cave also added nine digs. A pair of freshman, Jasmine Terry and Chandace Tryon recorded 13 and 11 kills, respectively, while sophomore Ingrida Zauere added an additional 11 kills.
Junior Amanda Carson also had a game-high 20 digs. In just two league matches this season, Carson has recorded a total of 50 digs.
After dropping the first set, 25-21, Houston was on the winning end of a 25-21 score in the second set. The two teams played a close third set but Houston was able to sneak out the win, 25-23.
Houston would then need 28 points to win the fourth set, topping the Tigers, 28-26 en route their first league victory.
Houston improves to 20-8 all-time against the Tigers and 8-5 since the two teams joined C-USA.
Houston will be back on the court Oct. 2-3, continuing C-USA action against Tulane and UTEP. The Cougars will return to the Athletics/Alumni Center after spending the last month of play on the road.
