HOUSTON - The University of Houston golf team will have a new coach in 2009-10 after head coach Vince Jarrett's contract was not renewed, interim director of athletics John A. Robinson Jr., announced Sunday evening.
Jarrett, who was the fifth coach in program history, joined the Cougars for the 2003-04 season after serving at Abilene Christian.
"We thank Coach Jarrett for his six years of service, and we appreciate everything he has done," Robinson said. "However, we made the decision not to renew his contract and move in another direction."
Robinson said a search to fill the position has begun with the hire to be made at the earliest possible time.
"The University of Houston has a proud history in golf, and our next coach will continue that tradition," Robinson said. "At this turning point in the golf program's history, we will make every effort to bring in the best coach."
