Golf Falls to Fourth at Rice Intercollegiate

HOUSTON - The University of Houston golf team fell to fourth place after firing a team score of 308 during the final round of the Rice Intercollegiate at Westwood Country Club.
The Cougars, who held the lead in the team standings after the first two rounds, posted their lowest round of the tournament in the final session to finish with a total of 883.
Pacific posted a team score of even-par 288 to finish four strokes ahead of host Rice. Liberty finished third at 882, while Louisiana-Lafayette placed fifth at 885
A day after three players posted sub-par rounds through the first 36 holes, no Cougar player shot below 75 on Tuesday. Senior captain Ben Moser, who stood atop the individual leaderboard after the first day, shot a 79 in the final round to finish in a tie for third place at even-par 216.
Sophomore Clark Mitzner tied for 18th with a score of 221, while junior Jackie Lindsey posted a total of 222 to tie for 21st. Sophomore Matt Eschenburg finished in a tie for 36th at 227, while junior Beau Davis tied for 44th at 228.
San Francisco's Ji Hwan Park posted an even-par 72 in the final round capture medalist honors with a score of 210. Rice's Christopher Brown finished second at 216, while Moser tied with Pacific's Patrick Kucich and Liberty's Robert Karlsson.
This is the spring season-opening tournament for the Cougars and the team's first of two tournaments in the city of Houston. Following the Rice Intercollegiate, the Cougars play host to 12 teams during their own All-American Intercollegiate on Feb. 23-24 on the Tradition course at Cypresswood Golf Club in Spring.
