Irving, Tx. - For an outstanding season, senior Jordan Irwin was selected to the All-Conference USA First Team, as voted on by the league's 11 head coaches. This marks the second consecutive year that Irwin has earned First-Team honors, the only golfer on this year's team to do so.
Irwin is the first Cougar to be named to the First-Team All-Conference USA team in back-to-back years since Andy Sanders and Wade Ormsby did it back in 2000-2001.
The lone senior led or tied the Cougars in multiple statistical categories this season including lowest average score (73.03), most rounds of par and better (11) and best finish (1st-Kansas Invitational).
The Calgary, Alberta native was at his best during the Kansas Invitational. He took medalist honors at the tournament after shooting a three-round combined 1-under-par score of 215 on the par 72, 7092-yard course at the Alvamar Golf Club in Lawrence, Kansas. The senior shot an even par on 36 holes during the tournament and was eight strokes under par on the par 5 holes throughout the tournament, helping secure the team victory for the Cougars.
For his amazing performance, Irwin was honored as the C-USA Men's Golfer of the Week (Sept. 9-16).
Additionally, UAB junior Zach Sucher was named the C-USA Golfer of the Year, Grant Robbins of Memphis was named the Coach of the Year, SMU's Kelly Kraft was selected the Freshman of the Year and UCF junior David Johnson was voted the Newcomer of the Year
Sucher, who earned medalist honors at the 2008 C-USA Championship, was also a two-time Conference USA Golfer of the Week selection this spring. Sucher is joined on All-Conference USA First Team by teammate Brad Smith, a pair of UCF golfers, juniors Greg Forest and David Johnson, Houston's Irwin and Memphis senior Ian Rochester.
Senior Robbie Greenwell of Memphis and Tulsa junior Nicolas Geyger of Tulsa are joined on the All-Conference USA Second Team by a pair of SMU Mustangs, Kraft and sophomore Ben Tewes.
Kraft tied for 14th place at the C-USA Championship and was the only freshmen to earn an all-conference nod.
Joining Kraft on the All-Freshmen Team were Herbert Day of UTEP, Warren Straub of East Carolina and Michael Whitehead of Rice.
