TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Houston golf team, stood in a tie for 12th place Sunday after the first day at the National Invitational Tournament.
The Cougars fired a team score of 299 in the first round to tie with Iowa and Sam Houston State on the par-72, 7,330-yard course at Omni Tucson National Golf Course.
TCU stands atop the team leaderboard at 275, while New Mexico and UNLV are tied for second at 286. Kent State (287), Arizona State (290), Pepperdine (291), Virginia (292), Arizona (294), Notre Dame (296), Tulsa (296) and Arizona "B" (298) rounded out the Top 11 leaders.
Ben Moser posted a 1-under-par 71 to tie for 11th place and lead the Cougars after the first day.
Other Cougars in action were Brady Shivers (74, t-34th), Jackie Lindsey (76, t-56th), Jordan Irwin (78, t-68th) and Steven Frazier (80, t-72nd).
TCU's Robby Ormand and Jordan Wolf, Eddie Olson of UNLV and New Mexico's Steve Saunders each recorded a 4-under-par 68 to lead the individual standings after the first day.
The 54-hole event continues through Tuesday.
