Volleyball Sweeps ECU, Win Fourth Straight

HOUSTON - The University of Houston volleyball team defeated ECU Friday night in three sets to win its fourth-straight match. The Cougars won with scores of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-21.
Houston (11-7, 3-2 C-USA) had three players with double-digit kills and two that recorded double-doubles in the win.
Senior Justine Farmer notched 12 kills and 11 digs for her sixth double-double this season and third in a row. Senior Kelsey King added 44 assists and 11 digs for her sixth double-double this season.
Sophomore Lucy Charuk slapped 15 kills and freshman Nataliya Panova had 12 to help guide the Cougars to a .352 team hitting percentage. ECU was held to a .173 team hitting percentage.
In the first set, after giving up the first point to ECU, Houston scored three-straight points to set the tone for the set. UH built an eight point lead, 19-11, out of a Pirate timeout, and despite a 4-0 run by ECU late in the set, the Cougars went on to win, 25-18.
The Cougars opened the second set scoring seven-straight points and the never looked back. Charuk led all players in the set with five kills on a .500 hitting percentage to give Houston the 25-19 win.
After taking the first two sets, Houston looked to make it three-straight in the third set. The Cougars scored five-straight points to make the score 11-5 forcing an ECU timeout. Out of the break, UH went on to win the set slapping 16 kills on a .353 team hitting percentage.
Houston is 5-4 this season in three-set matches.
UH has now on four-straight dating back to Oct. 3, including three in conference play.
UP NEXT
Houston will travel to Huntington, W. Va., for a match against Marshall at noon on Oct. 12 before returning to Houston for a weekend series against UCF and Southern Miss on Oct. 17 and Oct. 18.
