WEST COLUMBIA, Mo. - University of Houston divers Tania Cagnotto and Anna Kiess continued their strong performances at the NCAA Zone D meet Saturday during the 3-meter springboard competition at the Mizzou Aquatics Center.
Cagnotto, who won the 1-meter competition at the meet Friday, earned her second championship with 624.70 points in the 3-meter event. She finished more than 10 points ahead of Texas' Jessica Livingston.
The Bolzano, Italy, native will be looking to sweep at the NCAA Zone D meet when she competes on the platform beginning at 10 a.m., Sunday. Earlier this season, Cagnotto swept all three events at the 2006 Conference USA Women's Swimming and Diving Championship at UH's own Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium.
She joined former Cougar Yulia Pakhalina (2002) as the only league divers to accomplish that feat.
Kiess, the 2005 NCAA national runner-up on the platform, finished third in the 3-meter event with 606.30 points.
Both divers already had qualified to compete in all three diving events at the 2006 NCAA Championships, hosted by Purdue on March 16-18 in West Lafayette, Ind.
They became the 20th and 21st divers under head coach Jane Figueiredo to qualify for the nation's top collegiate meet during her 16-year tenure at UH.
Redshirt freshman Anastasia Pozdniakova finished 10th with 550.15 points.
