GREENVILLE, N.C. - Despite 30 kills from Justine Farmer and a career-best 66 assists from Krystal Schulle, the University of Houston volleyball team lost a 3-1 decision at East Carolina (22-30, 30-20, 21-30, 27-30) Sunday afternoon at Minges Coliseum in a Conference USA match.
The Pirates (16-9, 7-4 C-USA) picked up its sixth consecutive win, outhitting the Cougars (15-11, 6-5 C-USA) .344 to .255 for the match. ECU also controlled the front row, outblocking UH, 17-5.
Farmer cranked out 30 kills for the only the second time in her career, while Kelly McAnelly powered home a season-high 20 kills and added 10 digs for her 10th double-double of the season. McAnelly passed Emily Leffers (1993-94, 1996-97) for the No. 4 spot in the Houston record book.
Becca Sartori added 11 kills on a .364 attack percentage and Krystal Schulle dished out a career-best 66 assists for the Cougars.
Jaime Bevan headlined the Pirates, registering 14 kills and 11 blocks. Kelly Wernet slapped 16 kills for the Pirates, while Mignon Dubenion chipped in 10 kills and six blocks.
Houston returns to the friendly confines of the Athletics/Alumni Center to face C-USA leader, Tulsa along with SMU next weekend. First serve against the Golden Hurricane is set for 7pm Friday, while a 1pm tilt Sunday afternoon is scheduled with the Mustangs.
Cougar Notes This afternoon's match was the first time that East Carolina has defeated Houston the volleyball court ...
