HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The University of Houston volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision at Marshall (30-15, 30-23, 30-21) Friday evening at Cam Henderson Center in a Conference USA match.
Marshall (15-9, 7-3 C-USA) notched a .278 attack percentage for the match in comparison to a .102 clip for Houston (15-10, 6-4 C-USA).
Kelly-Anne Billingy headlined the Thundering Herd with 17 kills on a .378 attack percentage. Kristin Marcum added 10 kills on a .389 clip. Christine Bimberg passed out a match-best 37 assists, while Maggie Arias reeled in a match-best 18 digs for the victors.
Justine Farmer had her five match double-doubles streak come to close, powering home 13 kills and seven digs. Sunshine Misa-Uli tallied nine kills, while Krystal Schulle dished out 29 assists and added 13 digs for the Cougars.
Houston jumped out to a 5-1 advantage in game one on a Becca Sartori ace, but the Thundering Herd responded with 9-1 spurt capped by Marcum kill to grab a 10-6 advantage. Marshall continued to put the pressure on Houston never looking back en route to a 30-15 win.
The Thundering Herd continued its strong play, jumping out to a 19-12 advantage in game two capped by a Billingy service ace. Houston charged back to within 23-20, but the Thundering Herd regained the momentum off a pair of blocks and a Cougar service error for the 30-23 win.
The Cougars looked to refocus out of the locker room as Sartori capitalized on a pair of Marshall overpasses to claim an 7-4 lead to start game three. Marshall fought back to even the score at 9-9 and strung together three consecutive kills for a 17-12 lead. The Thundering Herd completed the sweep, 30-21.
