No. 14 K-State Hands Volleyball Its First Lose

HOUSTON - In Game 2 of the Park Plaza Kick-Off Tournament at the University of Houston, the host Cougars dropped their first match of the season in a five-game decision to the 14th-ranked Kansas State Wildcats.
One day after defeating Maryland in a five-game thriller in the tournament, Houston dropped to 1-1 on the season while the Wildcats bounced back from a 3-0 lose to No. 10 Cal on Friday to defeat the Cougars 3-2.
The Wildcats hit an impressive .240, with four players hitting over .300 including a .414 outing by Lisa Martin.
Leading the way for the Cougars was sophomore Becca Sartori who turned in 20 kills and five blocks, followed by sophomore Kelly McAnelly who racked up 19 kills on the evening.
The smaller Houston team struggled to get its attacks past the front line of the Wildcats where K-State turned in 30 total blocks on the evening.
Defensively, the Cougars' Libero junior Jaci Gonzalez tallied a match-high 33 digs on the evening.
Houston closes out the final game of the Park Plaza Kick-Off Tournament n the lone game on Sunday against the No. 10 California Bears at 1:00 p.m. in the Athletics/Alumni Center at the University of Houston.
