Swimming & Diving Trails Kansas, Harvard after First Day

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The University of Houston trailed Harvard and host Kansas after the first 10 events in a two-day, simultaneous dual meet on Friday at Robinson Natatorium.

Harvard led UH 149-34, while the Jayhawks held a 138-45 advantage over the Cougars after the first day. The meet resumes at noon, Saturday.

Saturday's schedule features the 400-yard medley relay, 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 200-yard breaststroke, 3-meter diving, 500-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Sophomore Anna Kiess won the 1-meter diving competition with 308.77 points to finish more than 38 points ahead of her closest competitor. The Berlin, Germany, native was the only diver to crack 300 points on Friday evening.

Teammate and junior captain Azul Almazan finished third in that event with 255.52 points, while junior Stephanie Mannella was fifth with 220.49 points.

Senior captain Kristin Bay finished fourth in the 10-yard backstroke with a time of 58.89 and placed sixth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.48.

Sophomore Szintia Szanto finished fourth in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:09.50.

This weekend's meet will be the Cougars' last until Dec. 31 when they compete at the Duke Kahanamoku Sprint Meet in Honolulu, Hawai'i.
