Volleyball spikes Lamar

Behind a solid performance from the entire team, the University of Houston volleyball team blew past the Lamar Lady Cardinals Tuesday night en route to a 3-1 win.
With the match tied at one game all, the Cougars cruised in game three to a 30-15 win and used their momentum from the third game to close out the match 30-21 in game four.
Games one and two of the match were split with Houston taking the opening game 30-25 and the Cardinals taking game 30-21.
The Cougars got solid performances by every player on the floor in the match, with all eight players reaching double digits in one or more statistical categories. Kelly McAnelly and Cinthia Piva each finished with double-doubles, 15 kills and 10 digs for McAnelly and 12 kills and 13 digs for Piva. Loure Dews finished with 13 kills, two solo blocks and six block assists, Rachel Harrell and Jaci Gonzalez had 15 and 11 kills respectively while Mary Cates finished with a team high 16 digs. Setters Mirela Vasconcellos and Lauren Grover had 28 and 18 assists respectively.
The Cardinals were led by Jessica Johnson's 19 kills and 13 digs and Nikki Perry's 14 kills.
The Cougars (4-9) have now won two of their last three games. They will be in action again Friday afternoon when they take on the University of Texas Longhorns at 5:30 in Austin Texas.
