HOUSTON, Texas - The University of Houston volleyball team fell in four games (30-25, 26-30, 30-28, 30-17) Wednesday night to the Baylor Bears at Hofheinz Pavilion.
The Cougars and Bears battled back and forth in the first three games of the match, with strong play from both teams. Baylor took game one 30-25, but Houston battled back to grab a 30-26 win to tie the match at one game apiece. The Cougars appeared to have game three in hand, but a late surge by Baylor gave them the game 30-28.
In game four, Baylor used their momentum from game three and jumped out to a quick lead, which Houston could not come back from. The Bears closed the match out with a 30-17 win, to even their season record at 4-4. The win was the second of the year against the Cougars, and just the third all time (31-3). The loss gives the Cougars a 2-4 record for the season.
Kelly McAnelly led Houston with 18 kills, scoring 19 points. Becca Sartori and Cinthia Piva added 12 and 10 kills respectively while Jaci Gonzalez picked up 24 digs.
The Cougars will be in action Friday when they take on The University of California-Irvine at 7 p.m. in the Sunset Classic.
