Cougar volleyball spikes TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas - Double-double performances by two Cougars and solid games by a handful of players helped the University of Houston volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over TCU Wednesday night.
Led by a strong performance by freshman Kelly McAnelly, the Cougars picked up their second Conference USA win 3-1 over the Horned Frogs.
The Cougars jumped out early with a 30-25 win in game one, but TCU tied the match at one with a 30-24 win in game 2. After the break, Houston closed the match by taking the final two games 30-27, 30-28.
McAnelly led the Cougars attack with 24 kills and a .389 hitting percentage while also picking up 16 digs. Houston improves to 2-3 in C-USA with the win and 6-13 for the season. Junior Loure Dews also had a solid performance for the Cougars finishing with 15 kills and a .433 hitting percentage.
Cinthia Piva finished the night with the Cougars other double double with 14 kills and 14 digs. Setter Mirela Vasconcellos dished out 54 assists for the Cougars while Libero Jaci Gonzalez added 19 digs.
The Horned Frogs were led by an impressive 27 kills from Dominika Szabo and 14 kills by Emily Allen.
The Cougars will now have over a week off before hitting the road to take on UAB on Friday, October 24.
