Golf Finishes in Sixth Place at Sooner Invitational

The Cougars, who entered the final round in sixth place, fired a team score of 292 to tie with Texas on the 7,021-yard, par-72 course at Stonebriar Country Club in Frisco, Texas.
Senior Brett Callas was the Cougars' leading player after shooting 1-over-par 73 in the final round to end the 54-hole event in 18th place at 215. Senior Chris Cureton, competing in his first tournament of the fall season, posted a score of 73 during the final 18 holes to tie for 20th place at 217.
Other Cougar linksters were Scott Ferguson (220, t-30th), Simon Robinson (222, t-35th), John Wine (226, t-49th) and Kevin Newman (245, 57th).
Conference USA rival TCU took top team honors with a two-day score of 839. The Horned Frogs, who boasted three of the top six individual players in the tournament, finished six strokes ahead of New Mexico and host Oklahoma. USC and Pepperdine rounded out the top five team leaders.
Individually, Oklahoma's John Kidwell fired a 68 in the final round to finish at 11-under-par 205. Zach Doran (Ohio State), Michael Letzig (New Mexico), Adam Rubinson (TCU) and Colby Beckstrom (TCU) tied for second, one stroke behind Kidwell.
The Cougars will now take a break from the competitive course until the end of the month when they take part in the Windon Memorial Classic in Chicago on Sept. 30-Oct. 1.
