Golf Finishes in 16th Place at ASU Thunderbird/Savane Invitational

TEMPE, Ariz. - The University of Houston finished in 16th place Saturday after the final 18 holes of the ASU Thunderbird/Savane Invitational.
In their last tournament before the 2002 Conference USA Championships on April 22-24, the Cougars posted a team score of 294 on the 7,027-yard, par-72 course at Karsten Golf Course to finish with a 54-hole total of 886, 54 stroke behind Texas, which set a new tournament team score.
Sophomore Scott Ferguson was the team's leading player, firing a 1-under-par 71 on Saturday to finish the tournament at 4-under-par 212 and tie for 25th place. Fellow sophomore Brad McIntosh, the 2001 C-USA Tournament individual champion, shot an even-par 71 in the final round and tied for 52nd place at 218.
Other Cougar golfers were Simon Robinson (t-77th, 224), Kevin Hermis (t-86th, 235) and Daniel Angenscheidt (88th, 238).
TCU's Bret Guetz walked away with the individual championship and set a new tournament record with a 16-under-par 200, three strokes better than John Klauk of Texas.
Arizona State, Pepperdine, Oregon, Arizona and TCU rounded out the top five team leaders.
The Cougars will now take some time off from the competitive course before returning to action at the C-USA Championships at Hidden Creek Golf Course in Navarre, Fla.
