Golf Finishes in Ninth at Morris Williams Intercollegiate

HOUSTON, Texas - The University of Houston golf team finished ninth at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate on Tuesday with a 54-hole score of 904.
Brad McIntosh, the 2001 Conference USA Tournament individual champion, was the Cougars' leading linkster after shooting a 6-over-par 222 over two days on the 6,906-yard, par-72 course at the Austin Country Club.
Simon Robinson, the Cougars' leading player in average entering the tournament, tied for 15th with a score of 223 and enjoyed UH's best score in the final round with a 74. Competing in his first tournament of the season, Kevin Hermis tied for 40th place with a score of 230.
Other Cougar linksters were Brett Callas (232, t-50th) and Scott Ferguson (235, t-59th).
Host Texas captured the team championship with a team score of 883, three strokes better than second place Pepperdine. Conference USA member TCU, New Mexico and Oklahoma rounded out the top five team leaders.
Individually, John Klauk of Texas shot 69 in the final round Tuesday to take the individual title with a score of 6-under-par 210. Randy Creighton of Pepperdine finished second at 212, while Oklahoma State's Hunter Mahan and TCU's Adam Rubinson tied for third at 214.
The Cougars return to action April 5-7 when they compete at the PING U.S. Collegiate.
