AUSTIN, Texas - The University of Houston golf team returns to action Monday during first- and second-round action at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate at the Austin Country Club in Austin, Texas.
First-round action begins around 8:30 a.m. Monday with the second round slated to start around 1 p.m. The tournament concludes with the final 18 holes on Tuesday, beginning at 8 a.m.
UH joins a prestigious field on the 6,906-yard, par-72 course, including host Texas, BYU, Fresno State, New Mexico, North Florida, Northwestern, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Pepperdine, USC, SMU, Texas A&M, TCU and UNLV.
The Cougars are no stranger to the tournament, racking up nine team titles and six individual championships in the event's 36-year history.
The Cougars come into the tournament on the heels of an eighth-place finish at the Las Vegas Collegiate on March 8-10. There, sophomore Brad McIntosh fired a 2-under-par 70 in the final round to jump into a tie for fifth place individually and help lead the Cougars to their third top-10 finish of the year.
McIntosh, the 2001 Conference USA Tournament individual champion, collected the team's best individual finish of the year after lowering his score in each of the three rounds. In addition, he jumped into second place on the team with his 74.2 scoring average.
Teammate Scott Ferguson also made his presence felt on the course during the final 18 holes, shooting a career- and UH-season-best 67, while lowering his scores each day.
Junior Simon Robinson leads the Cougars with a 73.2 scoring average.
