Swimming and Diving Finishes Fourth at Nebraska Meet

LINCOLN, Neb. - The University of Houston swimming and diving team finished fourth in competition Friday night at the 2002 Husker Sprint Challenge.
Nevada took top team honors with 136 points at the Devaney Center Pool, while Drury was a distant second with 98 points. Host Nebraska came in third with 94 points with the Cougars amassing 70 points.
The Cougars will conclude their stay in the Cornhusker State when they face these same three teams Saturday morning at the 2002 Husker Invitational.
Divers Yulia Pakhalina and Azul Almazan were the only Cougars to earn first-place honors Friday night. The Cougar duo combined to score 354.81 points on the 1-meter springboard, more than 60 points ahead of second-place finishers Laura Lunn and Amie Buoy of Nebraska.
Vicki Blocker finished second in one heat of the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 30.33, while Stacey Williams earned a similar place in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 26.49. Williams also placed third in the 100-yard freestyle, swimming to a time of 54.10.
Kristin Bay finished third in the 25-yard freestyle event with a time of 11.71, and Tatjana Banjeglav placed third in one heat of the 50-yard freestyle with a mark of 25.96. Meagan Wien posted a time of 57.31 to place third in the second heat of the 100-yard freestyle.
