Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The University of Houston golf team posted the second-best score of Sunday's final round to finish in tenth place among a prestigious 12-team field at the U.S. Intercollegiate Invitational over the weekend in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. For the three-day 54-hole event South of the Border, the Cougars posted a 20-over par score of 884 and were a full 56 shots behind tournament winner Georgia, the No. 1 ranked team in the country. Houston was also just 10 shots behind nationally ranked Arizona State and Clemson for third place. UH's 20-over par 884 performance was exactly the same as its most-recent score at the Las Vegas Invitational on March 9-11.
On the individual leaderboard the UH true freshman Brad McIntosh, an international standout from Wollongong, Australia, recorded his best collegiate finish to date. McIntosh finished 10th in the 60-player field with a 54-hole score of even-par 216. He equaled his best round as a Cougar with a two-under par 70 on Sunday. Overall he was 14 shots behind tournament champion Luke Donald of Northwestern. Donald and McIntosh were paired together on the final day of competition, which was taped for a television broadcast by ESPN. Portions of the final round will be aired on Sunday, April 15.
The Cougar golf team will next be in action at the Arizona State Thunderbird/SAVANNE Invitational in Phoenix (April 13-14).
