Cougar Golfers Finish Ninth at UNLV Intercollegiate

Las Vegas, Nevada (March 11) - The University of Houston golf team shot a composite four-over par 292 in the final round to hold on to ninth place at the Las Vegas Intercollegiate Invitational Sunday afternoon in Nevada. For the three-day, 54-hole event the Cougars posted a 20-over par score of 884 and were a full 40 shots behind tournament winner Georgia Tech, the No. 2 ranked team in the country. Houston was also six shots behind nationally ranked Oklahoma State for eighth in the prestigious 15-team field.
On the individual leaderboard the UH tandem of senior Andy Sanders and junior Wade Ormsby paced the Cougar scoring with identical rounds of one-under par 71. Ormsby tied for 13th place in the 75-player field with a 54-hole total of even-par, 216. Sanders followed up a 74 on Saturday with a 71 on Sunday for a tournament score of one-over par 217. Jeff Quinney of Arizona State won the event with 13-under 203.
