Cougars Place 14th in Preview Golf Tournament

DURHAM, N.C. (Sept. 26) -- The University of Houston golf team couldn't improve on an opening round score of 302 and finished in 14th place among a field of 16 teams after the final round of Tuesday's rain-shortened PING-Golfweek Preview at the Duke Golf Club in Durham, N.C. The Cougars (605 strokes) finished the 36-hole event at 29 shots over par and 22 behind team champion Georgia (583, +7).

Houston was led by senior All-America candidate Andy Sanders, who tied for eighth place overall with a one-over par 145. Sanders finished five strokes off the lead of individual champion Bryce Molder (Georgia Tech, 140 -4). Sanders second-round score of 72 was the only UH score at par or better both days. Rain shortened tournament action on Monday and hampered all the teams both days.

The Cougars will next be in action at the Taylor Made/Red River Classic in Dallas, Texas, on October 9-10. The 54-hole tournament will be held at the Dallas Athletic Club.
