Kaddie Platt was the University of Houston Volleyball program's sixth head coach and coached the Cougars from March 27, 2012, to Feb. 27, 2019.
In seven seasons at Houston, Platt was 94-123 at the helm. A 24-year head coach veteran, Platt held a 593-280Â career record.
AT HOUSTON
In 2018, Houston posted a 17-16 overall record and 4-14 mark in American Athletic Conference play. The Cougras started the season 8-0, a feat which hadn't been accomplished since 1987, and went on to start 11-1, which was the program's best start in 31 years.
In 2017, Houston was 12-16 overall and 8-12 in The American. Senior setter Keandra McCardell finished her career as Houston’s all-time assist leader in the rally-scoring era (2001-Present) with 3,046 career assists.
In 2016, the Cougars finished 5-26 overall and 0-20 in The American. The season was highlighted by Chenelle Walker being named to the 2017 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Fourth Team by Diverse Magazine.
In 2015, Platt led Houston to a 19-13 record, tying for seventh in league standings with a 9-11 mark. Under her guidance, freshman outside hitter Brookah Palmer and senior libero Olivia O'Dell were recognized at the end of the season.
Palmer was a unanimous selection to The American First Team. With her selection, Palmer became the first freshman Cougar to be named to the first team and second overall first-team selection for the program since joining The American. Palmer went on to be named AVCA All-Southeast Region Honorable Mention.
O'Dell was named to The American Second Team. In 2015, she broke the school record for the most digs in a single season with 701.
In 2014, Platt led the Cougars to a 14-18 overall record and eighth-place finish in conference. Senior outside hitter Kadi Kullerkann had a standout season as she was named The American First Team, AVCA All-Southeast Region and AVCA All-America Honorable Mention. Kullerkann recorded 644 kills, the third most in the nation and third all-time in school history for a single season. She also recorded double-digit kills in all 32 matches.
In 2013, Platt led Houston to a 18-15 record and a 10-8 mark in The American's inaugural season. The Cougars finished fifth in the league, three places higher than originally picked during the preseason. Under Platt, Houston started the season 7-1, the program's best start since 2002.
The Cougars were the only team in conference to take conference champions Louisville to five sets and one of three teams to sweep USF in both meetings.
During her first season at the helm in 2012, Platt led Houston to a 9-19 overall record and a 7-9 mark in the program's final season in Conference USA. Earning the seventh seed in the C-USA Championship, Platt led the Cougars to an exciting 3-2 victory over second-seeded Rice in Tulsa. Platt secured her 500th career victory and first win as Houston's head coach on Sept. 1, 2012, in a 3-1 win at Lipscomb.
Platt coached seniors Katie Norris and Chandace Tryon to All-Conference First- and Second-Team honors, respectively, while freshman Emily Howard was named to C-USA's All-Freshman Team. Senior Stephanie Nwachukwu was named to C-USA's All-Academic Team.
AT HOUSTON BAPTIST
Platt brought a wealth of volleyball knowledge and playing experience to Houston after compiling an impressive 499-157 career record while leading the Huskies at HBU for 17 seasons.
During her tenure at HBU, Platt led the Huskies to eight conference championships, five regional titles and six appearances at the NAIA National Tournament while also recording a National Runner-Up performance in 2002. For that effort, Platt was named NAIA National Coach of the Year and National Tournament Coach of the Year.
She quickly became the winningest volleyball coach in HBU history after only two seasons. Platt was instrumental in HBU's return to the NCAA Division I ranks in 2007, tallying a record of 26-3. Starting in 2007, Platt led HBU to three 20-win seasons and came to Houston after a 22-9 campaign in 2011 where she led the Huskies to the semifinals of the Great West Conference Tournament and earned Great West Coach of the Year honors.
PLAYING DAYS
Platt is a 1994 graduate of HBU and played four years for the Huskies. She currently ranks eighth all-time in solo blocks (98) and 11th in digs (1,193). For her career, she recorded 740 kills. She was named all-district in 1991, voted MVP in both 1989 and 1991, and inducted into the HBU Sports Hall of Honor and the University's Walk of Honor in 2000.
PERSONAL
She married Robert Platt in 1998. The couple has one son, Robert Jr., who competes in the pole vault on the Houston Track & Field team.
