Pat Winters joined the University of Houston in 2022 as its Associate Director of Sports Medicine where he serves as the Assistant Athletic Trainer for Cougar Football.
In his current role, Winters manages the sports medicine budget including ordering of medical supplies, Powerade products and overall inventory management. He also works in coordination with DonJoy Bracing and Breg Bracing for all knee and elbow braces, respectively. Additional responsibilities include oversight of sports medicine travel/game logistics, scheduling of medical appointments for student-athletes and the maintenance management of the sports medicine vehicles.
Winters came to Houston after spending one year at Rice as the Owls' Assistant Athletic Trainer for Football. There, he managed post-surgical rehabilitation under the guidance of the team physicians’ protocols, managed daily student-athlete injury tracking and implemented Body Composition tracking systems between nutrition, strength and conditioning and athletic training.
He also served as the liaison between athletic training staff and nutrition, managed paperwork and physicals for incoming football student-athletes, re-organized and managed travel logistics for the football sports medicine staff and oversaw immersion athletic training students among other responsibilities.
Winters completed a pair of Athletic Training internships including a one-year stint with the University of Michigan and a training camp session with the NFL's Baltimore Ravens. While with the Wolverines, he helped with implementation of full team coronavirus testing, assisted staff with management of electronic medical records (Kinduct), managed supply and equipment inventory and oversaw athletic training students and immersion interns. During training camp with the Ravens, his primary responsibility was assisting the athletic training staff with daily operations as well as post-surgical rehabilitation protocols.
Winters received his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Penn State in 2018 and earned his Master of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Administration of Sport and Physical Activity from Louisiana Tech in 2020. While with Louisiana Tech, he worked as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer for Football and Women's Tennis, assisting with a coordination of sports medicine logistics as well as with management of electronic medical records. He was also responsible for managing post-surgical rehabilitation under the guidance of the team physical therapist.
He is a Certified Athletic Trainer and Licensed Athletic Trainer in Texas among other professional affiliations and certifications.
