rv/rv Football Rallies to Knock Off UCF on Friday Night
11/7/2025 11:36:00 PM | Football
Junior kicker Ethan Sanchez boots 22-yard field goal late; junior defensive back Kentrell Webb halts drive with interception in end zone
Following Sanchez' field goal and a Cougar penalty enforced on the kickoff, UCF took over near midfield, and reserve quarterback Davi Belfort led the Knights to the Houston 27. With the Knights facing third-and-long and 18 seconds left, Webb stepped in front of a Belfort pass intended for Duane Thomas Jr. in the end zone and went down for a touchback to seal the win for the Cougars.

rv/rv Houston found itself down 10 points less than six minutes into the game and again late in the first half before rallying to snap a four-game losing streak to UCF and claim its first road win over the Knights since Oct. 24, 2015.
The Cougars outscored UCF 13-3 and limited the Knights to only 104 total yards in the second half.
Sophomore linebacker Corey Platt Jr. led the Houston defense with five tackles, including two for a loss of seven yards, while junior defensive back Latreveon McCutchin added a 45-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Junior wide receiver Amare Thomas hauled in five catches for 103 yards and a touchdown for the Cougars' first points of the game midway through the second quarter. It was his third 100-yard receiving game of the season.
Junior quarterback Conner Weigman threw for 223 yards and a pair of touchdowns with a team-high 82 rushing yards on 22 carries.
With the win, Houston improved to 8-2 overall and 5-2 in Big 12 play. The Cougars matched their win total from the 2024 season with three regular-season games remaining and improved to 5-0 on the road in 2025.
UCF fell to 1-5 overall and 1-5 in the Big 12.
The Knights took a 3-0 lead on Noe Ruelas' 37-yard field goal with 4:17 left in the first quarter.
Following a Houston turnover on a punt return, UCF took over on the Cougars' 25-yard line and pushed its lead to 10-0 on Myles Montgomery's 1-touchdown plunge with 9:39 remaining in the first half.
The Cougars took over on the ensuing drive and moved to within 10-7 when Weigman connected with Thomas down the right sideline for a 64-yard touchdown with 7:52 left.
Houston claimed its first lead when McCutchin stepped in front of a Tayven Jackson pass and outraced UCF defenders to the end zone for a 14-10 Cougar lead with 6:36 to go in the first half.
The Knights regained the lead at 17-14 on Jaden Nixon's 15-yard touchdown run with 2:05 left in the second quarter and pushed its advantage back to double digits on Phillip Dunnam's 43-yard interception for a touchdown with 1:36 left in the first half.
Sanchez booted a 40-yard field goal on the final play of the first half to move the Cougars to within 24-17 at the break.
The two schools traded punts back and forth to start the second half until Weigman hit senior running back Dean Connors on a 9-yard touchdown pass midway through the third quarter to tie the game at 24-24.
UCF took advantage of another Houston giveaway late in the third quarter to take a 27-24 lead on Ruelas' 54-yard field goal with 1:06 remaining.
On the ensuing possession, Weigman led the Cougars on an 11-play, 63-yard drive that was capped by Sanchez' 30-yard field goal with 11:19 left in the game. It was the Dallas, Ga., native's fifth game this season with multiple field goals.
After forcing UCF into a 3-and-out on the next possession, Houston used a 15-play drive that consumed nearly eight minutes and was capped when Sanchez drilled a 22-yard field goal with just 2:31 remaining.
